Elia R. Quijano Quiñones is Project Curator for the EMKP and is responsible for several aspects of the programme, including grants coordination, project delivery, grantee training, programme dissemination, and grant agreements. Her research interests include participatory practices in heritage conservation, community-based research, and the interconnections between heritage preservation, social development, and social sustainability.
Elia’s background is in anthropology, community engagement, and heritage conservation. She has been involved in several international collaborative projects working with local communities in North America, North Africa, Asia, and Europe to address topics of community participation in heritage conservation, the role of intangible heritage in recovery and resilience, the preservation of historic urban landscapes, and energy efficiency in heritage buildings. Her PhD research at the UCL Institute for Sustainable Heritage looked at the social impact of participatory heritage conservation on Social Development in contemporary Maya communities in Yucatán, México.
Prior to joining the EMKP, Elia held different positions, including Archaeologist and Conservation Assistant at the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historía – Yucatán Centre, México; Research Assistant at UCL Institute of Sustainable Heritage, and Collection Assistant at the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Cambridge.
